Aunt Omer’s Hospital

Aunt Omer's Hospital

While home last weekend, I was helping Mom select photographs for a family collage she has been wanting me to put together.  I spied this picture, flipped it over, and the notation was “Aunt Omer’s hospital.”  Omer (short for Wyomer) was a “nurse” though with no formal training.  This was the Beckham’s family home and she was married to Caswell Beckham in 1895.  They had several children, and Caswell was killed in a train wreck in 1905.  Records indicate that the bottom floor was the hospital and the family home was on the second floor.  It was opened in 1915, 10 years after Casewell’s death.

The house is still standing, though in need of repair, at 710 Grove Street, Graham, Texas.

How interesting! Apparently at some time someone changed the doors and windows ( I love those original arches), but otherwise the house is the same. I hope someone will give it a little TLC!

Yes, that door and those windows really don’t do it justice, do they? I understand it is in bad repair which is not visible from the google map version I looked up. I was actually surprised it is still in existence.
