The Grand Eastonian

Eastonian from Delaware River Bridge

We arrived on the last leg of the trip before heading on home Friday.  We are here in beautiful Easton, Pennsylvania–like Oxford only way better :).  It is rapidly becoming a ‘food destination’ according to our hotelier.  We opted for the Grand Eastonian in downtown, right next to the Delaware River.  Last evening after we returned from a 2 block jaunt to our dinner at the 3rd and Ferry Fish Market, I walked across the bridge to Phillipsburg, New Jersey, and back.  I think this place just moved up to number 1 on my retirement destination list.

Grand Eastonian

The Eastonian was renovated not long ago, and part of it is condo lofts and part hotel suites.  We are on the 5th floor with a view of the river and 3 bridges.  More on the hotel later!

We are about to head to Nazareth (the one in Pennsylvania 🙂 and Bethlehem (the one in Pennsylvania 🙂 for some New Deal research, and Rand will make a visit to Martin Guitar Factory before the big shindig tomorrow evening.  It is a beautiful day again, with sunshine, clear blue skies, a breeze, and pleasant temperatures.

Looks lovely! I might want to go there, too. Of course, there is that winter thing, as R mentioned. 🙂

Yes, go north in the summer. South in the winter! But it does look like a very charming place. I’m waiting on the entire hotel story!

  4. Ah I didn’t realize you were still up north. When by Independence Hall did you get to see the great Greek Revival Style Second Bank of the United States, and the also great Egyptian Revival Style (but some what bizarre facadectomy) of The Pennsylvania Fire Insurance Company?

Well, I am not up north tonight–we left this morning and arrived in Knoxville for the last night before the last leg home tomorrow. I had to look up the two buildings to see if I saw them. 🙂 I did see the ERS of the PFIC (love the word facadectomy), and started to take a picture, but we were trying to catch the bus to the Reading Market, so I did not. I did not see the other bank–not sure we went that far down the street, but it does not look familiar.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Pennsylvania towns. 🙂 It’s wonderful that the Eastonian has been restored.

I think perhaps the reason I like the northeast is that it is very European. As I said to R today, that makes sense given the area was the first settled with the European heritage and influence. The Estonian was very nice,as was the whole town. I stopped in at a local store where they make all they sell, and fell in love. I will be posting on it later.
