Sub-base: In process

It is kind of hard to think about naming a post that is moving so slowly toward the intended project outcome. This may turn out to be one of those “what was I thinking?” moments. A friend used to say something to the effect of when she was asked to do a project months in advance, it was always “Yes, I can do that” but the closer it got to not being months away but coming due she would ask herself “From away far off, that seemed like such a good idea…now, what was I thinking?”

I know what I was thinking: I am tired of looking at this pile of broken tile with weeds growing in it. I am going to do something about it. I spent all afternoon hauling sand and gravel mix up the hill a half-bucket at a time, smoothing it out, compressing it, checking for level and then repeating the step.

Is it time for a break yet?

Finally, I called it a day and decided to enjoy the remaining light with Beyonce. She knows when I start setting up the firepit and move my chair and set the glass of wine down that she gets to sit in my lap–her very most favorite spot.

Aren’t you ready yet? What is taking so long?

Small rewards for cat and her human: Relaxing in the warmth of a fall fire and the golden glow of the lowering sun. Life is good, even when all is not right with the world.

The firepit looks like the best place to be. Who wants to do anything else.

Life is good, we just have to overlook the not so good and find the good. I think you found it in that firepit! You’ll thank yourself when the project is done!

You are making progress bit by bit. You’ll get there. When I started my dollhouse reno, I didn’t realize how long it would take – especially getting new ideas along the way. Perhaps I should have named the series “Dollhouse Saga.” The nice thing is you are working outside, and that alone is its own reward. Our cat loves to sit on my lap, and if that’s not available right near me. She’s very affectionate, too. Good luck with your project, and enjoy all the good you have right there!

Fall looks pretty, and Beyonce, too, the fire pit inviting. Not sure about the hard work, though! LOL I wish we’d kept a running list of all of our “what was I thinking?” moments. ๐Ÿ™‚
