Sunshine and Snow Day

Although it was only a high of 21 today, the sun came out early and it has been a beautiful day with clear blue skies and stillness. I was willing today to get out long enough to refill the bird feeders. The birds had crisscrossed the yard and plants searching for food yesterday, and while there were remnants of seeds around the feeders, it would not be enough. Most of the seed-bearing plants in the yard were buried under snow or ice. I even spied one this morning after I put food out for Johnny with a piece of kibble in its beak.

Apparently, son J decided to see if he could ski or slide down the drive. It seems as if we do not get too old to play in the snow.

Look at those icicles! Great shot of the little bird tracks.

Thank you, Katie. I was taken by surprise by the icicles–apparently, sun can melt ice in even 21 degree weather. 🙂
I felt really bad for those little birdies hopping through the snow, so as soon as it was a bit later, I headed out to feed. That driveway is hard to get up and down when it isn’t covered in ice and snow; I could just see the ambulance waiting at the bottom, honking.

Oh my goodness, I’m glad you made it out and back safely. Seeing reports of this ice storm – it’s really frightening. I don’t like ice anyway, and I just feel so awful for everyone dealing with power losses and being stuck in cold, dark homes. In my part of Virginia last night, it poured down rain. But it looks like the weather will finally catch up to us on Thursday.

Ah, Arkansas and Mississippi in the deep freeze. Enjoyed your photographs. Would have made a snowman here – yes, even at my age – if the snow was not so powerdy.
