Cleaning out the closet

In the New Mexico space shuttle, waiting for take-off
We planned the future worlds we'd build.
After 4 wondrous and tumultuous years of trade-offs
Sacrifice and time could yield.
We loosed reins amidst sun and sand in New Mexico's plains.
Embarking on journeys seeming so far away in that first step
Forging ahead to places not yet dreamt.
Stepping in dinosaur tracks steeped in time
Crawling below ground in caverns carved with dolomite and lime
Standing near canyon's edge in awe
Breathing in all that we saw
And all that was ahead.

Love this! The last line gave me chills. I’m curious about the title and the picture. πŸ™‚

Thank you, Katie! We have embarked on the Great Cleaning Out in preparation for the kitchen renovation and other long-put off chores. Clearing out the storage closet I found this picture of me and son J. He was 8, I had just finished 4 years of grad school and Rand his BBA. We took a long-delayed and long-promised trip to New Mexico to take J to Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands Air & Space Museum. He and I were sitting inside a little space capsule. I was astonished at the flood of memories that came back.

Sweet picture, I think you found hidden treasure! I need to pick back up with the clean out, clean up, and organize project. It can be uplifting and draining at the same time.

Thanks, Beth. That was one of my favorite trips and favorite memories. Slowly we are making progress, but we do need to step it up. Mid-July will be here soon and we have to clear space to put all of those cabinets!

I suppose in a way I have. Even if it was not always the ones we planned, we still built one. If one lives long enough, one discovers them. I have been blessed thus far and just try to appreciate it daily. It would be fun to “read ahead” and see what others thought of those worlds. πŸ™‚
