Braised chicken thighs in white wine and mushrooms: How to prepare a delightful dinner in an antique/thrift store

Preparation for storing cabinetry

The truth is laid bare before you: now you see why the kitchen desperately needs a re-do. Besides being outdated, it was shoddy work in the renovation done before we bought the house and it has not aged well. We cleared space in the dining area as we thought we would have cabinetry stored in here…thus, why the buffet is in the middle of the kitchen area and pictures are hung wherever I had a space available. Even Steffi is confused.

Yes, in that tiny space between the buffet, stove, and sink, magic was made!

I can only tolerate take-out occasionally. First night, R made chicken salad for sandwiches. Second night, take-out from Newks. Third night, I made fish tacos, and last night–after a trip to the grocery store, I made braised chicken thighs in white wine sauce with mushrooms and sides of green beans and white wine-glazed potatoes. I once lived in an apartment that had a kitchen so small, I could stand in the center and whichever way I turned, touch both walls with my outstretched arms. This was a piece of cake.

However, like take-out, I can only tolerate piles of mess for so long. I was working with a colleague to finish our most recent research manuscript the last two days, so that took priority over the job you see above. She is off for her week in the mountains, and I am on for tackling this mountain.

The trouble with making magic is that making magic makes a mess. You need a little more magic to clean the mess up. I wish you oodles of patience to get to see the finished product now you’ve come this far.
