Day 4: Things happen, and then it is what it is not, which it now is

Looks a lot like a kitchen now

Yesterday was a busy day. Frankly, by the end of it, I was too tired to process pictures. We turned off the TV at 9:30 and I was asleep by 10. Mid-afternoon, Rand summoned me to the kitchen for a bit of news: The pantries to be installed along the dining room wall were the wrong size…a discussion of how to proceed ensued. I will spare you that conversation, but we reached a conclusion, which then later turned out to be erroneous as well. So, the problem we thought we had is not that problem, but a slightly less problematic problem.

Upper cabinets are in!

I am very pleased with how things are looking! We learned two days ago that the appliances that have been on order since May and were scheduled for delivery today will not be delivered until September 3. We have already ordered the portable 2-burner ceramic cooktop and a griddle/grill. I will be utilizing that large farmhouse sink to wash my dishes since we went with all new appliances. Luckily we still have the old refrigerator freezer. It is kind of a drag to have to go to the living room for another 2 weeks, but I would rather do that instead of move the refrigerator 2 more times instead of just once–that whole taking off the doors thing, ya’ know?

The title of this post is classic. Only someone going through a kitchen reno would come up with something like that! The upper cabinets looks great!

So the new relativably small glitches are easily solveable? I hope so as all has been going so well I find it so frustrating that something on order for so long, with plenty of notice when it’s required for can give another date so close to the time they were due..

Of course it is disappointing, but in the grand scheme of things, 2 weeks is not long. I might even have the rest of the house put back together by then. I just do not have the energy to fight over something I cannot win anyway. The kitchen will look great by Monday, even with temporary plywood counters…because now they have to come measure and then cut the counter tops and install. But, we knew that going in. Still, it will be worth it to me. Then on September 15, they start the cottage to be installed on those lovely concrete foundation. 🙂

One day at a time with any project, but this one is moving quickly. Your team really is good – the last time I had work done I was lucky to get them to show up and do an hours worth of work.
